What is the DELE A2 exam?
The DELE A2 (Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language, level A2) is the official Spanish proficiency certificate at basic level. It is issued by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of Spain's Ministry of Education and does not expire.
The exam tests four skills in two blocks: reading comprehension (60 minutes) and listening comprehension (40 minutes) in the first block; writing (45 minutes) and speaking (12 minutes + 12 of preparation) in the second. You need 60% in each block to pass.
Many people prepare for the DELE A2 to apply for Spanish citizenship by residence — it satisfies the language requirement of Law 19/2015. It is also recognized as proof of A2 level under the Common European Framework of Reference for studies and employment.
